Happy New Year
Happy New Year to everyone reading this! We hope that 2007 brings happiness prosperity and above all good health to you all and your family.
I am sure you will be all glad to know that the team at Over the Wall have been working very hard in preparation for 2007 camps. Those that have read our newsletter or visited the website will have noticed that we are expanding our camp programme this year. The programme sees the introduction of an extra week at Easter for children who are ill, followed by the usual siblings week. Both these weeks are taking place at Bryanston School which of course is the venue that we have used in the past. The summer session kicks off in bonnie Scotland at Glenalmond School near Perth. We hope to recruit around 30 adult volunteers, 2 nurses and 2 Doctors to run a camp for 25 ill children and young people. If all goes well then we would look to increase the numbers to 60 ill children and young people and run an additional siblings week in 2008. Once finished in Scotland its back to Bryanston in Dorset for 3 weeks (normal programme) for ill children and young people. Our grand finale will be finishing with a week dedicated to the young people aged between 14 up to their 18th birthday, to attend this week you must have been to camp before and the programme will be structured slightly differently.
As you appreciate the amount of planning and recruiting of volunteers and of course the children and young people has begun, so if you know of a child who could benefit from a week of fun and friendship within a safe environment then please point their parents/carers to the website or contact our Camper Recruitment manager (the camper criteria to attend camp is on the website).
Perhaps you are looking for a new challenge this year, or know of someone who wants to do some voluntary work, well if that’s you, look no further! You could volunteer to attend a week as a volunteer. Perhaps you can only give us 2 days this summer, again if this is you, then please contact our Volunteer manager.
If you are a nurse or Doctor and you know of some children who could benefit from camp, contact our Recruitment Manager. Better still do you want to be involved in facilitating the fun week that the children have? Do you want to see these children grow in self esteem and self confidence and return to their family with that new found confidence and self esteem? If so why not volunteer for a week as a nurse or doctor at camp.
If this interests you then please contact the National Activities Manager.
If you do not work with children or do not wish to, then there are other ways that you can help us. We rely totally on donations to run our camps. If you would like to fundraise for us please contact our Head of Fundraising who can give you advice and pointers of how to market the charity and how best raise money.
We hope all your dreams for 2007 come true… and allow our team at Over the Wall to bring the magic and fun to more children and young people affected by serious illness. Remember we have only been able to do this with your help in the past and can only keep doing it with YOUR help!!
Well as they say folks that’s all for now, but if you can help in anyway, then please contact the appropriate members of the team, they are listed below with their job titles and contact details.
