Over The Wall supporters dash through the streets of Reading to raise money!

On Sunday 2nd March, ten Over The Wall supporters competed in the Reading Half Marathon to raise money for the charity.

The event began at 10.00 on a beautiful, sunny morning just outside the Madejski Stadium. Over The Wall’s runners, all looking very professional in their bright yellow vests, endured glaring sun, chilling cross winds and extreme fatigue along a route that wound through the centre of Reading.

The Reading Half Marathon is the second largest half marathon in the UK and this year it attracted approximately 17,000 applicants. There were some sterling performances from Over The Wall’s runners; Martin Bampton and Hannah Broadhurst were our leading runners – both just creeping under the 2 hour mark. Tony Bradbury and Wayne Miller finished soon after.

There were also some very brave performances from our other runners; Paul Bampton battled through a calf injury to finish the race and Mary Finlayson, who has a form of cerebral palsy, pushed herself so hard that she almost feinted after the run as a result of extremely low blood sugar levels!

Our remaining runners, Sameer Pirmohamed, Charlotte Webb, Danielle Houghton and Nathan Ellis, all performed fantastically and should be immensely proud of their achievements.

Some Over The Wall supporters used the event as a warm up for other events; Michelle Goulding, Paula Townsend and Karen Koefman all completed the half marathon in good times which bodes well for their marathons!
