Andrew Powell – will be running the 2008 New York Marathon with a 90lbs Bergen!

Next November, Andrew Powell will line up to begin a gruelling 26 mile run through the streets of New York. But unlike those around him, Andrew will have a 90lbs Bergen strapped onto his back! (that’s a rucksack for all you non military folks)

Andrew is an ex-military man who spent 12 years serving his country in conflict zones such as Bosnia, Northern Ireland and the Persian Gulf. He spent 5 years with the British Special Services and is no stranger to punishing physical challenges.

In 1994, Andrew’s first child, Brogan, was born with a hole in the heart. She spent the first 2 years of her life on an apnoea alarm and every night it would sound as she stopped breathing.

Brogan is now a lively 14 year old, she is fortunate enough to have battled through her difficulties. Andrew still vividly remembers the emotional tension of having a seriously ill child and this has led him to support Over The Wall.

For every £2000 that you help Andrew raise, he will add 10lbs of weight to his Bergen up to a maximum of 90lbs.

Andrew hopes to raise in excess of £18,000 and if you want to make a donation, you can visit his JustGiving site.
