OTW Volunteer Wins an Award for ‘Making a Difference’

Over The Wall volunteer and fundraiser, Chris Berry has been awarded a New Forest Sports Award for two things that are ‘close to his heart’– Over The Wall and the development of girls football.

Chris was named winner of the ‘Making A Difference Through Sport’ category at the awards which aim to recognise commitment, achievement and excellence across sports and physical activity.

Chris has been a keen volunteer and fundraiser for Over The Wall having previously ran the Southampton Marathon. He has also recently completed the ‘Race to the Stones 100km- ultra run’, raising £200 for OTW.

Last year Chris also helped to create a relationship between New Milton Town Ladies football club and Over The Wall, who now support OTW where they can. He also promoted OTW by adding the charity logo to the U12’s kit for promotion across Hampshire and New Forest. It is anticipated that in the coming months, the U12’s club will have an OTW charity game and are looking to organise a local tournament to raise funds.

Chris received his award on the night from Paralympic athlete Luke Sinnott who spoke about competing in the Invictus Games and World Championship at the event.

Chris said, “I was delighted to have been nominated for the award and was overwhelmed to hear OTW mentioned at such an honourable event and to have the charity acknowledged by a sporting great such as Luke Sinnott.”
