Captain Tom 100 for Over The Wall
30 April - 3 MayFree
Celebrate Captain Tom’s amazing achievements in a special event over his birthday weekend
Friday 30 April 2021 would have been Captain Sir Tom Moore’s 101st birthday and the one-year anniversary of his famous 100 laps of the garden that raised millions for health charities.
Following the outpouring of heartfelt messages since his death, his family pledged to celebrate his life with an event that everyone, in the UK and around the world, could get involved in to celebrate Captain Tom’s generosity of spirit, the hope and joy he brought to millions, and his sense of fun.
The 100 Challenge
We’re inviting you, your family and friends to take part in Captain Tom 100 from Friday 30 April to Bank Holiday Monday 3 May 2021 to celebrate Captain Sir Tom Moore’s amazing achievements and raise vital funds for Over The Wall.
Everyone of all ages and abilities is invited to take on a challenge around the number 100 any time and anywhere over Captain Tom’s birthday weekend, starting on Friday 30 April through to Bank Holiday Monday 3 May. That could be walking 100 steps or running 100 metres, scoring 100 goals, baking 100 cakes, climbing 100 stairs, hopping 100 laps of the garden, building 100 sandcastles, writing a 100-word poem, flipping 100 pancakes – anything at all, inside or outside.
How to take part and support Over The Wall
All you need to do is dream up a challenge based around the number 100, do it between Friday 30 April and Monday 3 May, and ask friends, family and work colleagues to sponsor you.
You could walk 100 laps of your garden just like Captain Tom, swim 100 lengths or sing for 100 minutes. There are no rules (apart from Government guidelines on the roadmap out of lockdown) and it’s open to everyone. Do it your way and have fun!

Why take part
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect on charities like Over The Wall, with the cancellation of fundraising events and the loss of fundraising income.
At Over The Wall, just like Captain Tom and his original 100 lap challenge, most of the children and young people we support are pushing beyond their personal boundaries daily just to achieve normal childhood goals, to give themselves hope for the future.
There are more than 50,000 children in the UK living with a serious health challenge, a great many of whom endure long periods of treatment and social isolation, which can often be more debilitating than the illness itself. Through participation in our free-of-charge, fun-filled camps, we promote inclusion and transform the lives of seriously ill children and their families by giving them a sense of belonging, whilst developing confidence, self-esteem, coping strategies and friendships.
