Camp is more than a holiday. It’s a life-changing experience that gives children, like Rhona, the chance to laugh, grow, and feel truly magical again.
Rhona's Story of Camp
Because of her health conditions, Rhona, 11, missed out on many things other children her age enjoyed, such as school trips, sleepovers, and nights away with youth clubs.
Missing so much time at school made it hard for her to make friendships, and her peers had often been unkind.
Rhona worried that the other young people at camp would be the same. She was naturally anxious and teary.
The Magic of Camp
On camp, surrounded by other children facing medical challenges like hers, and supported by caring volunteers and staff, she gradually shed her self-doubt and anxiety.
Camp didn’t just give Rhona some amazing memories. Camp helped her reclaim her identity. Rhona discovered that she could be sociable, confident, and feel connected. She made life-long friendships, fun and belonging replaced isolation, and by the end of camp, she didn’t want to leave.
Rhona’s mother says’, “Camp is amazing, each year there’s growth… you can just see it in her confidence!”.
