Wheelchair racer and former camper raises £1,080

Molly Hunt, a 24-year-old from Cambridge, has completed the King’s Lynn 10k race in a wheelchair in 43 minutes raising almost £1,080 for Over The Wall – who helped her as a child.

In 2004 Molly was diagnosed with bone cancer, and it was during this time, that she discovered Over The Wall.

Over The Wall played a huge role in enabling Molly to regain the moments of her childhood that illness would have otherwise caused her to miss. Now – as well as raise funds for the charity – Molly also returns to camp as a volunteer.

Molly said, “I’m not exaggerating when I say that that first week at camp changed my life. I suddenly became a child again. Camp is the most special place to be – and always will be. Raising money for Over The Wall gives me the incentive to cross the finish line. It also provides the perfect motivation to train and be in shape to complete the race. If I am helping to raise funds for camp – then I know I can, and will do it.”

As a student of Cambridge University, graduating as a doctor in 2018, Molly has also found her experiences of Over The Wall to be of great benefit throughout adulthood.

“Even now when I face something tough – I think back to camp and say to myself ‘you can do this – look what you achieved then!’. Camp has certainly offered me many benefits that have helped me later on in life – which is why I’m delighted to be giving back to a cause I truly believe in.”

Isabel Overton, Director of Development at Over The Wall said, “We are all very grateful for Molly’s inspiring achievements and efforts to raise funds for Over The Wall. Our camps are life-changing for children with serious health challenges and – as a former camper – Molly’s dedication and passion truly is testament to that. Her fundraising will help us provide more children with the opportunity to experience the wonder of our camps.”
