Teen camp – new for 2020!

Teenage years are often considered to be the most difficult period for a young person coping with a health challenge, which is why Over The Wall is introducing a new camp specially for this age group.

Our new Health Challenge Camp for teens has been developed to cater for the needs of 13-17-year-olds, offering a range of opportunities that these young people would otherwise struggle to access.

The weekend camps provide a programme of age appropriate activities, all of which aim to increase the confidence and self-esteem of campers, addressing the isolation and exclusion teenagers with serious illness often experience. Through a range of opportunities, campers are encouraged to engage with peers, develop a sense of belonging and build positive relationships with other young people.

The programme will be tailored to meet the physical, social and medical needs of the young people attending with activity options ranging from arts & crafts, climbing, music and archery, as well as bespoke sessions co-designed (and in some cases co-delivered), by the young people themselves. These will take the form of creative, interactive workshops facilitated by specialist external providers and will address specific issues including building resilience, positive body image, mental health awareness and empowerment.

All activities are designed to encourage and challenge young people to reach beyond the perceived limitations of their illness.
